One of my favorite Disney projects was designing, developing and testing a responsive website for Disney Internships and Programs. The goal was to design a portal where users could access communication, event, education, transportation and housing information. The target audience included participants of a Disney College Program, Disney International Program, Disney Culinary Program or Disney Professional Internship. Most of the audience was currently enrolled in a college or university or recently graduated, while others were representing their countries as Cultural Representatives. At the time, the participants represented 46 nations and all 50 states.
After initial research, I began this project by performing card sorts (with a team) and identifying key words. I was able to organize the information in seven categories (which became my main navigation) and created a content map based on my discoveries. For wireframes, I started sketching ideas before refining them digitally. I also utilized the brand’s style guide as I designed the prototype.
During my process, I developed more detailed personas, scenarios and user flows. Each persona represented a different internship or program in the target audience, and the tasks were representative of common participant needs. The tasks were also included in my usability tests, which I performed onsite in an office. I used the results of the test and a post-test survey to create a report and improve my prototype design.
For this project, I developed a sample site with HTML and CSS, and compiled all of my UX documents for a presentation. I presented this project multiple times to large and small audiences with teams, managers, directors and senior-level executives.
